The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, which launched the Starlink satellite network, said the service is now active on all continents, including Antarctica, which means it has achieved its goal of providing worldwide coverage.
On Sunday SpaceX launched a batch of 54 satellites on Sunday, joining 3,076 Starlink satellites already active in low Earth orbit. The goal is to get to 42,000 satellites by mid-2027. Starlink’s stated goal is to provide high-speed Internet even in rural areas, where it is difficult to bring broadband through wired systems.
Elon Musk also sent several Starlink parables to Ukraine, at the request of the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorovto ensure the internet also in the areas affected by the Russian offensive.
Starlink: Despite the sea of satellites, FCC approval is lacking
Despite being active on all seven continents, Starlink has failed to get the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC stated that Starlink “failed to demonstrate that the suppliers could provide the promised service”. In response, SpaceX has stated that the FCC’s rejection is “grossly unfair”.
In the meantime, according to the reports made public by the company last May, they would be more than 400.000 Starlink subscribers worldwide.
