Mark Zuckerberg seems to have very ambitious goals for the future of Facebook. The creator and CEO of Facebook, in fact, intends to go far beyond the concept of “simple” social network. In fact, in the near future, Zuckerberg is aiming for transform Facebook into a real metaverse. This goal is shared by all of Facebook’s business divisions and will be pursued over the next few years.
Will Facebook become a metaverse?
A metaverse coincides with a a place where physical reality, augmented reality and virtual reality converge. It is an interconnected dimension that can include its own internal economy, separate from that of the “normal” universe. As ambitious as it may seem, Zuckerberg seems convinced of being able to transform Facebook into a real metaverse and to be able to do so over the next 5 years.
The infinite office project
Facebook is working on a project “Infinite office”. In the future, Zuckerberg points out, it will go far beyond the current video calls for meetings. The goal is to give life to a new production paradigm capable of mixing physical reality, augmented reality and virtual reality. The concept of “infinite office” could be one of the key elements of Facebook’s transformation into a metaverse.
Users will be able to access this virtual and fully customizable place anytime, anywhere, using various devices. This virtual space will not be for a single user. It will be possible to invite other users to your “infinite office”. Zuckerberg talked about the possible transformation of Facebook into a metaverse and many other topics related to the social network into one long interview with The Verge.
