Facebook introduced a new feature: the ability to insert multiple personal profiles and to change at any time from one to another. Creating multiple personal profiles allows you to easily organize your page with who you share with and what content you see.
Facebook, the new feature of having multiple personal profiles
Meta already offers controls that allow the user to choose which audiences to share with on Facebook. After experimenting with multiple profiles over the past year, the company has received feedback from people that they would prefer it a clearer organization of friends, groups and interests. This helps them feel freer to interact with them. Additionally, Meta has seen success with separate interest-based accounts on Instagram, so it plans to bring this option to Facebook. The ability to create multiple personal profiles is starting to spread globally and will continue in the coming months.
Facebook, how using multiple personal profiles works
Here’s how to get more personal profiles on Facebook.
- Choose a name and get a @username for up to four additional personal profiles.
Connect with the people or communities you choose so each profile has a unique feed with relevant content and shared interests.
- Switches easily from one profile to anotherwithout requiring login.
What changes when multiple personal profiles are activated
When activating multiple personal profiles, some Facebook features, such as aAppointments, Marketplace, professional mode and payments, will not be available for additional personal profiles. To start, messaging will be available within the Facebook app and on the web for additional personal profiles. We plan to expand Messenger support for additional profiles in the coming months. The option for an additional personal profile will only be available to eligible adult accounts.
The controls
When you create an additional personal profile, its settings are automatically set to those predefined: Notification and privacy settings from one profile are not transferred to other profiles. Additionally, some settings are managed separately for each profile, such as choosing who can see posts from that profile or who can send friend requests to that profile.
Meta recommends that you review your privacy settings for each new profile you create, and you can update the privacy settings for your profiles at any time. Your main Facebook profile will not show that you have additional personal profiles.
Authenticity and responsibility
Meta’s long-standing account integrity and authentic identity policy states that your primary Facebook profile must be the name you use in everyday life, and that won’t change. You can choose any name for your additional profiles, but not for your main profile. The company remains committed to preventing identity theft and identity misrepresentation, so additional profiles cannot impersonate others or be used to misrepresent your identity (including your age or location).
