Actually not just with a crocodile. You could, for example, opt for a more meek little dog. However, be aware that in Far Cry 6 you will never be alone. Ubisoft’s latest effort, out on October 8th, introduces the Amigos, companions of raids who will not only keep you company but who can turn into a real weapon in the new tireless fight against Anton Castillo, the dictator of the fictional nation of Wound.
But this is only a small part of what awaits you. Let’s find out everything else in this one Far Cry 6 review, tested for you on PC.
The dictatorship of Castillo
Far Cry is an anomalous series. In fact, we are used to sagas that leverage heroes, heroes who become absolute protagonists and who remain printed in our minds. Think, for example, of Tomb Raider with Lara Croft, Uncharted with Nathan Drake or Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed where the assassin on duty changes shape and name but always remains at the center of the story.
Far Cry stands out for the antagonists. Each chapter brings with it a new paladin and a new villain but it is the latter that we really remember. Maybe the name Ajay Ghale won’t tell you anything but Pagan Min, with her blonde hair and flamboyant dress, is unforgettable. And so are Vaas, with his crest and scar, or the more recent Joseph, with that unshakable faith and orange glasses.
With the sixth chapter of the Ubisoft saga has decided to go one step further. And so Antòn Castillo borrows the face of the actor Giancarlo Esposito, the Mandalorian Moff Gideon. Or Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring, if you prefer.
Antòn Castillo shares the charisma of his predecessors. You will then find him in command of an entire nation, Wound, determined to transform it into a great state, a paradise.
If the speech sounds annoyingly familiar to you, it is because it is. Castillo is a dictator and resembles many despots of the past.
Not only for the utopian ideals but also for the facets of his character. Castillo is a father, a president, an idealist, a violent. A lion, as he says.
Antòn Castillo
Far Cry 6 will put you in front of Castillo and give you a task: killing it.
The people of Yara, who voted for this brutal president and his insane plan to make them rich with the miraculous Viviro – a tobacco derivative that is supposed to cure cancer – realized that this is not what they expected from. he. What the Yarians wanted was not the slavery of the outcasts, the cancer patients infected with the same poison that should create the Viviro, the curfew, the army lined up on the streets and ready to lock up a now unusable capital.
They wanted wealth and freedom and instead they lost everything.
Now the Yarians are ready to take back the country, with Liberty – the rebellion – and a hero, Dani Rojas. The latter may be both man and woman, depending on the choice you make at the beginning of the game. The story will of course remain the same and will see you grappling with an infinity of battles that will bring families, former soldiers, commoners and even musicians to your side.

In the midst of all this then you will also have to deal with another great character from Far Cry 6: Diego. Anton’s son is a thirteen year old who is indoctrinated by his father day after day. Diego, however, is different. He is not a monster, he is not violent, he does not kill for the fun of it. He’s a smart, hard-fought kid, a teenager who wants to make his father proud but at the same time able to understand that all that blood and all that ferocity is wrong.

You have an Amigo (s) in me
Far Cry 6 it is not a hit and run game. One that you can finish in a few hours and then leave behind. Ubisoft has done its best to offer players an incredible amount of activities ranging from main missions, related to the story, to treasure hunt.
You will really be spoiled for choice.
But let’s take a step back. Your main task will be to free Yara. To do this you will first have to conquer 4 areas: the island of Santuario, Madrugada, Valle de Oro and El Este. This aim will lead you to carry out main missions that involve armed clashes, thefts, rescues and much more, but beware of the surrounding area. You will in fact have to contend with checkpoints, anti-aircraft and enemy bases, to be attacked and conquered to be able to hoist the Libertad flag and, last but not least, to sail the skies without being shot down.
The enemies are well equipped, the outposts have more alarms with which to call additional troops and in addition there are tanks and helicopters that will disturb your (almost) suicidal missions.
You can counter all this with the stealth, made possible by the environment and the arsenal at your disposal.
Yara is a tropical archipelagoe and plants favor camouflage. Plus you’ll have precision rifles and even the good old bow to act silently and from a distance.
Far Cry 6, however, also thinks of lovers of extreme clashes by putting it in the hands of the players three main weapons and a special do-it-yourself weapon which can do quite a bit of damage. There is no shortage of dynamite, bombs, knives and everything you need to face Castillo’s army, including baseballs that act as a diversion to be able to sneak close to enemies without being noticed.
Dani has on his side too a wide range of vehicles. In addition to cars, there are motorbikes and jet skis, trucks, helicopters, planes and even the dear old horse to move along the paths of the guerrilla, normally uncrowded and above all not frequented by the military. And if you like the thrill, there is always there wingsuit but be careful to open the parachute at the right time or you risk crashing and dying unnecessarily.
Guapo, a crocodile as a friend
To keep you company you will find many other members of the resistance, with dedicated shelters that also serve as points for the Fast Travel, and the Friends, animals that will support you in the fight against Castillo. Ubisoft has particularly indulged here. You will indeed have 7 four-legged friends ranging from Guapo, the deadly crocodile ready to tear his enemies to pieces, to Chorizo, the friendly dog who can distract his opponents. Amigos will be unlocked throughout the game and you can change your partner at any time, choosing the one that best suits your needs.
Sure, it’s not quite like having an entire tactical team but it’s definitely more challenging and fun.

Far Cry 6 review: history hunt
Aside from normal missions, there are plenty of assignments left. The most interesting ones are probably related to Yarian stories. These are side quests that involve various and intriguing characters, each with its own peculiar story and with some absurd request ranging from stopping an artist who is a little too extravagant to stealing a “trivial” tank.
In our opinion they give the game a human dimension, while helping you discover and explore the huge territory of Yara.
If, on the other hand, you prefer less social activities, you can jump into one treasure hunt to find new weapons and new equipment or to test yourself in some competition, perhaps aboard a jet ski that must avoid the mines scattered along the coast.
Far Cry 6 also encourages you to assault enemy convoys and experience the operations of the Bandidos in which you will have to decide the strategy but no, not on the pitch. In fact, you will have a blackboard that will only ask you to make tactical decisions to ensure the success and survival of your allies.
For the more daring instead there are special operations, that you can play alone or in co-op. Lola the taxi driver will take you to the quest site, in unknown and particularly dangerous areas, giving you a seemingly simple task: to steal resources. Too bad it is not medicine or metal but of highly unstable chemical weapons. Getting out alive won’t be easy.
A living country
Yara is a country teeming with life. There are people who work in the fields, who walk along the paths, who drive their cars on the roads and who bet on cock matches. And then we have the animals: the fish you can catch, the crocodiles to kill (but not Guapo, mind you), the coyotes that attack you and the crabs that cross the paths to go who knows where.
Let’s not forget the plants, flowers and shrubs that characterize the different environments of Far Cry 6. The game will take you to the paradisiacal beaches of Yara but also to the jungle or in cities visibly inspired by Central and South America.
Artistically, Ubisoft did a really good job, taking care of everything in detail. To make the game even more realistic, even the doors do not only have “open” or “closed” modes but you can push them to see what’s out there and decide on the best approach.
Then we don’t have long and boring uploads and the steps from gameplay to cutscene are immediate, accompanied only by a quick transition to not interrupt the immersive experience of Far Cry 6.
A note of merit also goes to the sound sector, also in this case well studied. There soundtrack then it is full of South American hits and the radio that gives you real hits and even some successes of the past (did anyone say Ricky Martin?). The soundtrack then gradually expands: along your path you will find USB sticks that will allow you to add new tracks to your repertoire. A nice and original idea that we really appreciated.
Attention only to dubbing: it does not include the Italian language. The decision, almost certainly of an economic nature, perhaps does more justice to the different characters of the title but could break the immersive atmosphere a little by forcing you to read the subtitles.
Far Cry 6 review: for us it is yes
Far Cry 6 has some other surprises in store for you but we do not want to deprive you of the taste of discovery. Just know that Ubisoft’s new title is worth your time.
If you loved the previous chapters, the game will make you feel at home, without however giving you that perennial feeling of dejà-vù thanks to the new features included this year. If, on the other hand, you are new to the saga, do not panic: the very nature of the series, made up of separate episodes and new characters, allows you to enjoy the game without difficulty, slowly learning its mechanics and …
