No, you have not read wrong: Apple intends to make the first folding iPhone and the panels will be supplied by the Korean company. It is not expected to be released until 2023. Here’s everything we know.
What do we know about the new foldable iPhone
The news comes from a report issued by Business Korea, according to which Apple would be planning the first foldable iPhone in history. According to sources, this should include a foldable display 7.5 inch OLED. And that’s not all, to do this it will use panels provided by LG.
According to what was reported, as also confirmed by ANSA, the project would include two versions of the smartphone. The design in fact would be inspired by Samsung folding models, like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. The former would then have a canonical folding configuration, while the latter would open like a book. The latter, in fact, would be a mini tablet. Nothing is known yet about the name that will be given to the devices, but one thing is certain: they will not see the light before 2023. To confirm it are Ming-Chi Kuo, expert analyst of the Apple world e Mark Gurman, US journalist. The latter, regarding the project, declared:
Galaxy Flip Z 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3: the two devices that Apple would be inspired by for the first folding iPhone
“The current prototype features two panels separated by a hinge and round edges in stainless steel, just like the canonical iPhones. There is no notch on the front, where the Face ID sensor should be “.
The collaboration with LG to solve known problems of folding devices
As for the collaboration with LG, there are many speculations. According to ANSA, the reasons are to be found in the advanced technologies of the Korean brand. This would in fact be able to make crystal panels liquids capable of flexing and bending in all positions. A screen that is therefore capable of folding both vertically and horizontally.
However, the implementation is complex, as these are extremely sophisticated technologies. For example, we can recall the numerous problems that involved the first Galaxy Fold from Samsung. This, among the numerous defects, also presented the detachment of the screen in case of accumulation of dust between the folds of the frame.
We just have to wait, however one thing is certain: the first foldable iPhone will mark a historic moment.
