Is it possible to think of a society in which no one is left behind? And how to make sure that no one gets lost in a world that is constantly changing? Technology in this sense can do a lot and that is also what has been widely expressed during the recent Fujitsu Activate Now 2021, a digital keynote in which we also participated.
Before the actual event we had the opportunity to join in a session dedicated only to the press that gave us the opportunity to get to know better the new CTO of Fujitsu, Vivek Mahajan, which immediately made it clear how the issue of sustainability plays a fundamental role for our future. And technology, according to Mahjan, can help us face even the most difficult challenges this period is facing us.
Takahito Tokita, CEO e Chief Digital Trasformation Officer di Fujitsu
In the future of Fujitsu there are new technological systems based on the company-university collaboration to be able to implement the R&D departments thanks to young and brilliant minds in the field of AI and quantum software.
These are some of the most important topics touched by Fujitsu’s CTO, who was not alone in speaking. For example, he could not miss the introduction to the event by Takahito Tokita, CEO and Chief Digital Transformation Officer of the company. In his introductory speech he stressed how Fujitsu believes in a more sustainable world and how technology can play its part. Not alone, this is clear, because it must be supported by adequate communication.
Tokita also underlined that the primary objective is to achieve the standards required by the UN, leading to positive effects of incredible value. An example is that of carbon neutrality by 2050. Well aware that Fujitsu alone cannot solve all social problems, it can still make an important contribution, especially by connecting people with different skills. The goal is to make people live a peaceful life and on a greener planet.
Many guests who took the stage of Fujistu Activate Now 2021, from Kathy Matsui, Former Vice-Chair of Goldman Sachs Japan e Chief Japan Equity Strategist, passando per l’ex presidente dell’Estonia Toomas Ilves, passing through Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.
Everyone brought their own examples and experiences, especially those related to ESG (Environmental, social and corporate governance). Matsui stressed that “technology is a key to a better and more responsible society. The world has high expectations for technology leaders like Fujitsu to emphasize ESG as a basic strategy to become companies that contribute to development holistically and not just seek profits. “
Also interesting is the passage with Sir Branson, who wanted to point out how individuals are the capital of a company. According to the owner of the Virgin Group it is essential that people believe 100% in the company they work for and consequently in what they do.
A final tangible example of how technology is the present and the future of our world led him to Fujitsu Activate Now 2021 the former president of Estonia, in office from 2006 to 2016. In his decade Toomas Ilves transformed a country, in which today there are only three things that cannot be done digitally: get married, divorce and sell or buy a property. Being able to do everything digitally has allowed Estonia to save about 2% of the annual GDP, as well as making everything faster and more efficient. Ilves argues that “the challenge of the next half century is the digitization of public services in every country”.
