After Geoff Keighley’s first summer red carpet it’s up to the Future Games Show: here are all the major announcements from the 2023 edition
We talked at length about the many ads from the E3 summer substitute, but this week wants to blow us away and to prove it have been all the various trailers of the Future Games Show 2023. We don’t want Geoff Keighley if the show isn’t the only protagonist: we have another videogame red carpet full of news to dissect. And like we did with June’s trailblazer, we’ve included the full video below for those of you who missed out on the huge amount of news. (On the pre-show with Jules Gill and the multiple invitations to take part in the various promotions of the official channel, then, we will gloss over in favor of the announcements from the voice actors Yuri Lowenthal e Laura Baileypresenters of the evening.) Highwater | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
Among all the various announcements of the Future Game Show 2023, it was the one who opened the dance Highwater. For the occasion, Tamara Jokic and Gilad Barakan exemplified the musical nature of the indie title: Jokic sang a song in Spanish, with Barakan on guitar. The song was interspersed with gameplay clips where the game’s Out of this World-like art style offered striking glimpses into the waves. But you don’t live only on exploration on the dinghy: as soon as the rhythm of the song started to press, so did the gameplay, between action and puzzle solving. The game will be released in estate are all platforms, nintendo switch even.
Resistors | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
The second to make its appearance is Resistor, by Long Way Home and PQube. In this title, which has an undoubted narrative focus (“CaRPG”, as it has been described), in the apparently post-apocalyptic world, races aboard jet vehicles are the masters. All of this is then enriched by an intriguing cel-shaded graphic design that didn’t fail to make us salivate a bit. We don’t have a specific release datebut at least we know that (for the second time in a row in the presentation, nonetheless) we have a full-fledged multiplatform case. In fact, the game will be released on every platform, including Switch!
Instinction | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
Mononyms aren’t finished, it seems. Yuri Lowenthal wowed Laura Bailey by announcing that Instinction boasts a prehistoric theme, in a gag that will be recycled multiple times throughout the event. The first-person view suggests that we are dealing with a spiritual heir of Jurassic Park: Trespasser, given that more than finding us in prehistory, dinosaurs are from us. More or less. The “pre-alpha material” hasn’t given us much food for thought, but it’s already possible to sign up to participate in the early access coming to Steam later in the year… and sell your skin dearly with lead, it seems.
Star Trucker | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
We were about to gasp at the idea of seeing a remaster of the failed Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing “so, for the meme”. But no: in Star Trucker we will live an experience as a truck driver… with the difference that we will do it in deep space. The simulator aspect is further amplified considering that the first person view also extends inside the cockpit. The game is expected on next year, but (as with nearly every title of the night) Lowenthal and Bailey were quick to invite us to wishlist it on Steam. You see what to do, in this sense!
Lords of the Fallen | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
If you’re nostalgic for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, we’ve got the announcement for you. HexWorks, the development team behind Lords of the Fallen, is polishing up the original action role-playing game… or rather, it is about to propose (literally) a “spiritual successor”. Be that as it may, the game features “huge bosses” and an immersive narrative that will see us commuting between the world of the living of Axiom and the land of the dead of Umbral. It will be possible, with all the soulslike mechanics that derive from it, to pass from one world to another almost completely freely. The more time we spend in Umbral, the more enemies will try to kill us, “brutal bosses” included. October 13thwith pre-order and Wishlist now.
Head Bangers Rhythm Royale | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
For a sudden change of atmosphere, Glee-Cheese and Team17 take care of it. In this title with much more “rubbery” graphics than the beginning of the teaser had led us to guess, between one Rabbids-style curtain and the next, the pigeons face off with (literal) musical challenges. This, in a few (and confusing) words, is the premise of Head Banger Rhythm Royale, which already promises to fill the void left by Rhythm Paradise. And we didn’t mention the Big N music game by chance: in addition to the platforms next-genin fact, the title is in the pipeline this year also on Nintendo Switch!
The Last Faith | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
The soulslikes all call each other a bit, especially now that the events for the sector press never fail to remember the reception of the general public towards the genre. That will be why The Last Faith was billed as a pixel-art variant of Bloodborne, though the side-scrolling action makes it very difficult to avoid more direct comparisons to Blasphemous. By registering on the site you can already propose yourself as a beta testerwhile the game has set its sights on all platforms out there, including Nintendo Switch. Well yes, hybrid fans already have a lot to feast on!
Steel Seed | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
The very Italian Carlo Bianchi, from the similarly homegrown development team Storm in a Teacup, presents us with a “stealth action platformer”. All of this translates into an amalgamation of genres that is a little difficult to frame, given the borderlines that are so… confused. Anyway, Steel Seed boasts a huge post-apocalyptic setting, inspired by various different manga in which the heroine Zoe and her pet robot Koby will have to survive with all the realistic dictates that come with it during the gameplay. There will be dodging and, of course, stealth takedowns. The game is expected only on next-gen platforms.
Distant Bloom | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
Derivative as the gaming industry has become, we wouldn’t be surprised if publishers were looking for a new bandwagon to jump on. Whether Tunic’s influence is intended or not, though, the appeal of Distant Bloom it’s really hard to ignore. In this title we will have to explore a desolate world from an aerial view, in perfect top-down Zelda style. The variation on the theme, however, extends everything to an inventory including resources to be managed with a crafting mechanic, while the SEGA Mega Drive-style soundtrack embellishes the overall picture. We will rebuild the world from scratch when the game comes out on Steam.
Go Fight Fantastic | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
More often than not, when Western animation pays homage to Japanese animation, jumbles of words bordering on the parodistic appear. We don’t know if that’s what Go Fight Fantastic owes its quirky callsign, but the cel-shaded art style of this top-down adventure leaves little room for doubt. To this are added some nice manga-style cutscenes and, among other things, the possibility of playing in co-op and of changing the characters used on the fly by pressing a single key. For both Go Fight Fantastic and Distant Bloom are available limited time demo. And this isn’t the last you’ll hear from us, so start opening Steam!
En Garde! | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
Probably the most ardent Disney fans among you will have answered with “French makes me angry!”, but we assure you that Dachshunds in Alexandre Dumas sauce have nothing to do with it. Rather, it is the swordswoman Adalia de Volador, “among the forgotten pages of history”, who slashes her way to fleetingly wound the fetid felons. And the protagonist of On Guard! it is as “playful” as is the artistic style, cartoonish to the point of making Fortnite pale. Fight tyranny in all its forms today with the demo of the very light-hearted game available on Steam right now.
Alaskan Road Truckers / Alaskan Truck Simulator | Future Games Show 2023, tutti gli annunci
We thank the presenters for having succeeded in the difficult task of complicating the visit to the registry office by one of the games with the simplest premises of the evening. In any case, compared to Star Trucker you stay with your feet, or rather with your wheels, on the ground. In Alaskan Road Truckers / Alaskan Truck Simulator you will be able to experience life as a truck driver at 360 degrees (and horses): from stops to purchases, from repairs to deliveries, up to building your business. You can pay your respects at the grave of Big Rigs when the game, whatever it’s called on day one, releases on all platforms except Nintendo Switch.
The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales | Future Games Show 2023, all announcements
Also known as “The Pagemaster was already taken”, the schemer The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales is based on a very intriguing premise. The game will put us in the shoes of the eponymous Bookwalker, a reader apparently able to travel between books… manifesting himself in them with a book instead of a head. Or at least that’s what we gathered from tonight’s mental trip. The game is expected on June 22, 2023 are all platforms except Nintendo Switch. If you want to understand for yourself what the experience consists of, however, we advise you to go to the marketplace of your reference platform, because the demo is available from today!

This title is the first of the games conceived openly with Unreal Engine 5 in mind, and lives up to the “macabre” description given to it by the presenters….
