Samsung has unveiled its new tes(sss)oro: it will debut at the Mobile World Congress 2024 Galaxy Ring, the first smart ring from the Korean giant. And in addition to inspiring a million Lord of the Rings-style jokes (but we’ll try to contain ourselves, I promise), discussing with the Samsung team in Barcelona made us understand some information about this new device. Which will come in many variations in size and color, before the end of the year.
Galaxy Ring: what we discovered about Samsung’s ring
Al Mobile World Congress 2024 Samsung put AI at the center, showing patrons at the Barcelona fair the potential of Galaxy AI within the Galaxy S24 and its other smartphones, as well as in its new Galaxy Book4 laptops. But he also made no secret of his renewed interest in wearables dedicated to health.
Among these is its new Galaxy Ring, which the company revealed to us during the event Unpacked January. And which wants to challenge other intelligent rings like the already known one Oura Ring and the next one Amazfit Helio Ring. A product for which we do not yet have all the details: in fact, the Samsung team tells us that it is only a prototype and that there may still be some changes before launch.
Many sizes and three color variations
Galaxy Ring it will have advanced features and will fit within the ecosystem Samsung Health. At the moment, Samsung does not want to go into specifics about the sensors it will be equipped with. But we expect precise detection of the heartbeat and of theblood oxygenation, also due to the greater grip of the ring compared to smartwatches. This should allow sleep analysis more accurate, as well as detecting changes in your heartbeat and helping you monitor your health.
The minimalist and modern design will come in three color variations: silver, gold e ceramic black, which we were able to see at the Samsung stand in Barcelona. The Samsung team also explains to us that they will have nine different sizes, a perfect fit for every finger. Depending on the size, the battery inside may vary. But we expect autonomy of several days, greater than that of a smartphone: even in small dimensions, not having a screen helps.
Galaxy Ring: launch date and possible price for Samsung’s ring
Samsung did not want to say anything about the dates and price of the Galaxy Ring: the only certain thing, for now, is that the smart ring will arrive “in the second half of the year”. Discussing with colleagues in the press room at the fair, the expectation is a launch alongside the Galaxy Fold and Flip foldables this summer. But journalists don’t make these decisions, so Samsung could surprise us.
We also have no information on the price. Evaluating the competition (particularly Oura Ring), we expect a figure around 300 euro for this first generation. But if it were to succeed, perhaps it could even go lower in the future.
After seeing it in Barcelona (albeit behind a glass case), Galaxy Ring it seems a little more “real” to us than the January announcement. Samsung seems ready to expand its range of wearable devices dedicated to health with this ring with a simple, yet elegant design. The hope is that in the next few months we will be able to obtain some more information, and then test this new product that has just been released. We will keep you informed.
