Sooner or later we have all dreamed of fly a plane. Even those who are afraid of heights, even those who have never seen it Top Gun, even those who are not motoring enthusiasts have had that brief moment in which they wondered what it would be like to fly a vehicle like that. Anyone who has actually done it can tell you that it is extraordinarily complicated, even more than you might imagine. But if you don’t want to stop dreaming, you can test yourself with the flight simulator realized by Turtle Beach. We did it during Milan Games Week and we are here to tell you our impressions…
Turtle Beach’s flight simulator lets you fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere
First let’s set the context. We are in the stand di Plaion at Milan Games Week 2023, the Milanese fair dedicated to gaming which was held a few days ago. Obviously we tested ourselves (but above all we tested the kit) on Microsoft Flight Simulatorone of the most complete titles ever when it comes to replicating the pilot experience.
Here we were then able to discover the Full Turtle Beach flight simulator. There are three parts that compose it, each of which can be purchased separately and combined with each other to make the experience “scalable”.
It starts with VelocityOne Flight, or rather the cloche of our miniature cabin. In addition to the rudder (equipped with all the buttons of the traditional Xbox joypad, relocated in convenient positions for management) we find the integrated rudder and brake controls, but above all a very comfortable display. Here we will be able to manage the various control stick settings, but also view information about our simulated flight.
The second piece of the kit is VelocityOne Rudder, a pedal board to keep close to our feet. It is a peripheral that is fully adjustable in width, to adapt to players of all ages. To make the experience even more realistic and complete it also offers two sets of interchangeable pedalsso as to aid immersion.
All this then combines into VelocityOne Stand, which allows you to connect all the different peripherals in a convenient and accessible way. The final touch proposed for the Turtle Beach flight simulator to really feel in the cockpit.
“Ready for take-off”
What Turtle Beach Flight Simulator offers is conceptually simple, but highly effective. In fact, once we hold the control stick, we feel really close to that dream we talked about at the beginning. We have a whole host of commands available for get ever closer to the piloting experience of a real plane, with all its peculiarities.
Everything is made with great attention to materials, but above all to design. When dealing with this type of peripheral, so particular and intended to replace the joypad, the risk is always of sacrificing convenience for realism. However, it is appreciable that Turtle Beach has found some optimal ideas for this VelocityOne Flight, with which to make all the conventional buttons accessible and comfortable, but without sacrificing the proximity to the reality of the control stick.
It is undoubtedly a high-end product. We are not talking about the ultra-luxury of gaming, but the price of the complete kit makes it clearly aimed at an audience of enthusiasts of the genre. Especially considering that it would be worth it to fully enjoy it also invest in a suitable seat, which completes the immersion. However, we leave the pilot uniform optional (even if the idea is fun).
If you are looking for a high-level flight simulator, the one offered by Turtle Beach is definitely the one for you. A challenging product, of course, but one that will deliver that dream of taking flight is truly concrete.
