Google announced a new feature for its chatbot, Google Bardwhich promises to change the way users interact with videos from YouTube. The new feature allows users to ask about YouTube content and receive detailed answers after a content analysis by Bard.
Google Bard answers questions about YouTube videos
The news is one Bard Extension, the new assistant extensions launched on September 19, initially only in English. In fact, Italian users must set theEnglish as default language in your Google account to access this feature. Also, to use extensions, you need to activate the conversation history.
Bard Extensions offer the ability to obtain information from five services, including Likes, Hotel, Maps, Workspace and, precisely, YouTube. These extensions are active by default, but can be turned off by clicking the puzzle icon located in the top right corner of the interface. The user can activate an extension by inserting the symbol @ in the Bard prompt and selecting the desired option from the available list.
In the past, users could ask Bard to search for a video on YouTubebut now the functionality has evolved allowing Bard to provide specific information about the content of the videos. For example, users can request a specific recipe mentioned in a cooking video and get a detailed list of ingredients and procedure.
However, a fundamental question arises regarding this functionality: could it lead to a decrease in earnings for content creators? Using Bard to analyze a YouTube video bypasses directly accessing the channel, starting the video, and watching advertisements. Often, in the description of videos, there are links to official sites that users should visit to get further details. The possibility of access specific information from videos could lead to a decrease in direct views on YouTube channels, as Punto Informatico points out.
On the other hand, it makes a lot of information more easily accessible to users. The accuracy of the answers – and whether users will use this feature – remains to be assessed.
