Google Maps is down. Or rather, the app opens but, once the search is started, everything unlocks or is only shown with several seconds of waiting.

On downdetector.it the always punctual reports of users, who complain slowdowns and sometimes the inability to load and view search results made on Google Maps.
Problems also for real-time navigation.
In Italy at the moment the problem seems limited compared to other countries. In the United States, for example, reports appear to be much higher, with users claiming to be unable to load and use the service.
