Google works on an AR viewer (but don’t call them Google Glass)
In an article that talks generally about the push of Silicon Valley companies, the New York Times quoted inside sources as saying that “Google is hatching a new project.” Times reporters explain that the acquisition of North, a company specializing in smart glasses and AR interfaces, could lead to a Google AR viewer.
The details are still very smoky at the moment. The first model from Focals by North
But now the situation could change. North was working on the second iteration of its smart glasses when Google bought it in June 2020. THE Focals 2.0 could they possibly become the new viewer designed in Mountain View? We know that Google is developing an augmented reality operating system which is under the development division Devices & Services, so it seems likely.
Having anticipated the times a few years ago with its glasses, Google seems to be grasping a shift in the tech world. From Meta ad Apple, passing through Microsoft e Snap, many companies are now turning to augmented reality devices. Google could use its own experience and that gained with North to make room in this world.
At the moment, however, the information available is still few, almost all speculative. But we will keep you updated: the next two years will be fundamental for the development of the ‘metaverso‘. And if it turns out to be a winning bet, Google will be ready to enter the field.
