Heaven Dust 2 review – the great tribute to Resident Evil

Quite often, titles that claim to be inspired by other great games end up falling into the abyss of banality, resulting in the few photocopies. This however it’s not the case of Heaven Dust 2 which instead brings great honor to the saga that inspired it: Resident Evil.

We didn’t play to the first chapter and we decided to try the second one precisely because it is inspired by one of the our favorite videogame sagas. The result? Here we are have a lot of fun and our gaming experience was amazing unique.

Heaven Dust 2 begins where the first chapter ends. Players take on the role of Steve, the protagonist, who has just survived a zombie apocalypse inside a mansion. His immunity to the virus which caused the epidemic, made him a person of particular thickness. For this reason it is sent to a laboratory to carry out tests.

Punctually, things are not going well and another epidemic begins inside the laboratory. Steve’s goal is to succeed to survive ed help trapped people in this narrow place. Furthermore, he will have to be able to solve everything before the lab blows completely into the air, self-destructing.

As you can see, Heaven Dust 2 was inspired by some key features of the early Resident Evil chapters. Despite the initial familiar with the topic, we stayed with Steve until the end, curious to see where the story would take us.

The best way to describe this game is as follows: adorable characters battling undead creatures. The goal of the players is to to survive ed explore the environment surrounding, killing zombies left and right and solving a series of puzzle ed puzzles that occur along the way.

Puzzles and gameplay

Puzzles are one of the more interesting aspects of the game: although they are not extremely complicated and grim, as those of Resident Evil could be, they are still funny e well done. However, we must admit that, on some occasions, we spent a few more minutes than expected a think so we can say that there is something for everyone. It is a very game balanced and you feel it from the start.

It is also interesting explore the environments. While it may seem like a small game in appearance, Heaven Dust 2 delivers many interesting places to fully explore and visit. Of course, we can’t access all available areas unless you have the right tools to access them. Therefore explore well and try to visit every single place: it will be worth it.

As for the gameplay, we found it simple but still impactful. Players will find various weapons to use, depending on the situation they are in, and just click the action button to automatically aim and then shoot. Also, if is held down long enough the key, it will target the weakness of the enemy. We can then headshots like a pro if we’re lucky. However, we are faced with a survival horror so, as always, pay attention to the ammunition.

We would like to point out that sometimes automatic aiming fails therefore it could be annoying and frustrating. Aside from some strange behavior of the enemies (sometimes they don’t notice our presence), the fights are nonetheless compelling ed exciting. While the game is mostly fun, it still has a slight sense of tension which makes it even more exciting. Besides, we will face one wide range of enemies, which is great.

All those enemies, combined with the combat system, will even be able to make things more complicated than expected. We never know what’s going to happen with Heaven Dust 2 and we loved that aspect.

One last thing we want to mention is further hints and elements inspired by Resident Evil. We will find green and red herbs, combat mechanics family members, one pleasant music ready to welcome us in the rescue room and much more. There is really everything and unlike what you might think, it is not heavy or trivial. Indeed, we are confident that it will make Capcom veterans smile. We we did it and we also had a lot of fun.

In conclusion

We conclude ours review stating this: Heaven Dust 2 is a game he wants entertain the audience, make him angry every now and then (you never know what can happen, keep this in mind) and, above all, wants to offer apleasant and unique experience. Capcom and Resident Evil lovers will really appreciate it and will be happy to be in such an environment familiar at the same time, different.

We started the game convinced of already know everything: what we would find on the right, on the left and on the ceiling. In fact, despite the already known environment, Heaven Dust 2 still managed to surprise us and to make us live an experience that we never expected.

We remind you that the game is available on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam so you have no more excuses.
