Huawei e Amazon have recently concluded a multi-year cross-licensing agreementputting an end to their legal disputes: a global patent agreement.

The announcement of this agreement allows for the resolution of several problems related to intellectual property between the two companies. As Reuters notes, Huawei recently settled lawsuits filed in Germany over the use of technologies related to connectivity and video playback against Amazon. Today’s agreement should lead the companies towards a future of collaboration.
Alan Fanhead of Huawei’s intellectual property rights department, said with satisfaction: “Huawei is pleased to exchange patent rights with Amazon. In fact, patent licenses allow us to expand the number of companies that can use what would otherwise be proprietary technologies and which, in turn, provide consumers with more innovative products and services.”
On the other side, Scott Haydenvice president of intellectual property at Amazon, recognized the value of vast patent portfolio of Huawei globally. He highlighted Huawei’s “commitment to licensing its patents to companies like Amazon, which often rely on industry technical standards when inventing new products and services for customers.”
Without going into technical details, the announcement of this agreement demonstrates the mutual recognition of capablebetween Huawei and Amazon. This step could also indicate a growing trend towards greater collaboration e sharing of intellectual resources. Even between American and Chinese companies.
