Huawei launched the second edition of Tech by Her during an event held at the Salerno Maritime Station. This program aims to promote the leadership femminile in the field of technology and to explore the gender digital divide in southern Italy, in collaboration with the program “Women Plus” promoted by Fabi Saad.

The new edition of the survey will focus on Campania region. And it will give life to a docu-film based on the stories of women who have contributed to innovation and change in their communities through technology.
Fabio RomanoHead of Industrial Ecosystem Development at Huawei Italia, underlined the need to eliminate “system barriers to create equal conditions for the organization of training activities for provide the necessary digital skills and also to raise awareness of the importance of choosing STEM study paths. At the same time it is equally important to try to dispel the stereotype that women are not suited to STEM subjects and technologyproviding role models of women who today stand out in these fields, also addressing the specific critical issues of each territory”.
The first edition, presented in 2022, highlighted that only the 23.7% of women interviewed possessed a background in STEM areas. While the 28% showed feelings of anxiety or fear regarding these matters. Despite this, the81% of women recognized the importance of digital skills for their careers.
Technology told by women
Parallel to the analysis of the status quo, comes the documentary “Tech by Her – Technology told by women”interviewing women from the Puglia region who represent positive models of female leadership in the world of ICT and the digital economy.
Valeria FascioneCouncilor for Research, Innovation and Startups of the Campania Region, highlighted an increase of 40% in female innovation in Italy compared to 2019. Although parity is not yet achieved, the number of innovative startups led by women rose to 2000while the total number of women-owned businesses in the country is equal to 1.342.000.
Women in Tech
In accordance with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the European Union’s Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, Huawei is committed to creating opportunities for women through the platform”Women in Tech“, which is divided into three categories of initiatives:
- Tech with Her: offers training on ICT skills to women to actively participate in the digital transformation of the country;
- Tech by Her: promotes female leadership by sharing examples of success and giving voice to women in the ICT world;
- Tech for Her: Use digital technologies to improve women’s well-being and create value for society as a whole.
The second edition of “Tech by Her” is sponsored by Campania region and from Municipality of Salernowith the support of Confindustria Salerno and its Plural Women’s Committee. The presentation of the documentary is scheduled for June 2024, together with the award ceremony for companies that have distinguished themselves.
