Apple may have to change the name of your headset to China due to a conflict with Huaweiwhich owns the trademark “Vision Pro” dal 2019 and deposited it in China.
Apple Vision Pro could change its name in China, due to the “fault” of Huawei
Huawei has registered the trademark “Vision Pro” with the Chinese Intellectual Property Office on May 16, 2019 and got approval on November 28, 2021. The company already has two products under this brand: the visore smart Vision Glass and televisions Vision Smart Screen. The “Vision Pro” trademark is valid until November 27, 2031.
Huawei’s trademark rights could be an obstacle for Apple’s activities in China, unless the two parties fail to find an agreement beneficial to both. It is not known whether Apple is negotiating with Huawei. In any case, the company will have to contend with Huawei in the near future.
One possible solution for Apple would be use the Vision Pro name and pay a fee to Huawei for its royalties. This practice is widespread in China, where international companies pay to secure the rights for a set period. In the past, Apple has already paid Proview Technology in China to get the iPad trademark rights.
Apple has stated that will launch the Vision Pro headset in the US early next year. And there is no date for the international launch. This means that the company still has some time to reach an understanding with Huawei for the Vision Pro brand.
