In the last few hours, the Instagram App is testing an option to transform content video in Reels. At the moment, the novelty is being tested with a select group of users, with the aim of making it available to improve their experience with videos. “We are testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram,” a spokesperson for Meta said. But let’s see what it is specifically.
Instagram Reels: App tests a function to transform videos
Just yesterday afternoon Matt Navarra, social media expert, shared a screenshot showing a message aimed at users who are part of the platform test. Apparently, these are the only ones reading a text that reads: “Video posts are now shared as Reels”. But what does it really mean? Simply that public accounts will see theirs video content transformed into Instagram Reels, with the ability for other users to view the video and use music to produce their own. Private accounts, on the other hand, will make the Reels visible only to followers.
Beyond this, Navarra also reveals that public accounts will automatically allow other users to create a Remix with your own Reel. Unless they decide to change this option from their profile settings. In short, a rather interesting novelty, which we do not know when it will really be made available on the platform. Indeed, when this happens, there will be quite a few problematic issues to address. First of all, it may be difficult to post a horizontal video if it is uploaded in the vertical format of the Reels. And then it remains to be understood how much this transformation will affect user content.
What is certain is that Meta is investing heavily in Instagram Reels, which at the moment they take up more than 20% of the time that people spend on the platform. Therefore, it doesn’t surprise us at all that the company is considering turning all video content into Reels, thereby increasing the time users spend interacting with this format. On the other hand, last year Mosseri himself declared that Instagram “was no longer an App for sharing photos”. And the most recent changes show this well. Indeed, the Head of the platform has never denied the goal of betting everything on Instagram Reels. And this change could really be a major push to reach the goal.
