Intel indefinitely suspends the fabulous groundbreaking ceremony at its new Ohio headquarters
The United States Congress was unable to agree on the approval of the so-called CHIPS Act (here for more information). This consists of roughly $ 52 billion in subsidies for semiconductor manufacturers and it appears that Intel is not very satisfied. As such, the company is said to have put the brakes on the inaugural ceremony for the planned opening of the factory in Ohio, which was due to take place on July 22nd. Intel reportedly sent an email to various state and federal lawmakers saying it had suspended the ceremony, indefinitely due to lack of progress on the CHIPS Act. In an official response from Intel to the Register, the company said the event has not been rescheduled, which according to the publications means that there is no new date for the inaugural ceremony.

Apparently it will still be held at some point, but the spokesperson for Intel (here for more company details) was not answered when asked if the ceremony was subject to the CHIPS Act. However, the Registry was told that the planned start date remains unchanged, for now. That said, Intel has also released a statement stating that
the extent and pace of our Ohio expansion will depend heavily on CHIPS Act funding,
which was also part of the initial press release in January when the fab plans were announced. If the CHIPS Act does not happen, Intel’s plan appears to focus on countries outside the United States where the company receives subsidies, although the Ohio factory is likely to still be built, only at a slower pace. .
