More news on iOS 16which apparently will add support for virtual cards in Safari for online shopping. As revealed by 9to5Mac, the beta 3 code contains this new option, useful for improving the safety of users when shopping online. Let’s go then to discover something in more detail.
iOS 16: virtual card support arrives in Safari for online purchases
As you may already know, some banks offer users the ability to use virtual cards as an option to generate an alternative number to your credit / debit card number. In this way, if the data of your card were to be stolen on the Internet, just delete its virtual version, without the need to request a new one from the bank. Indeed, some structures even allow you to generate a single-use card number. Now, finally, even these virtual cards receive support in Safari thanks to iOS 16.
While Apple Pay provides a secure number for every transaction, this new feature will allow users to make purchases even where Apple Pay is not supported. As reported by the codes, the new operating system brings several new features to users. “Make this card available in Safari AutoFill and hide your real card number when you shop online,” reads the strings revealed by 9to5Mac. And then again: “Continue to use your card as usual. When you shop online, it is now available in Safari AutoFill with your real card information hidden “. And finally: “For added security, the website will now use a virtual card number and it is available in Safari AutoFill“.
At this point, it’s unclear whether the feature will be available to everyone or if it will require adoption by banks and card providers. But one thing is certain: it will change the way Apple users shop.
