An analysis of components revealed that i production costs of the latest iPhone 15 series of Apple are increased by 10% compared to the previous year. This marks a second consecutive year of record costs for Cupertino, with Apple forced to improve its management of manufacturing costs.
iPhone 15, components 10% more expensive than last year
The analysis and disassembly are the work of Nikkei Asia e Formalhaut Techno Solutions. The models being dismantled include theiPhone 15, l’iPhone 15 Plus, l’iPhone 15 Pro e l’iPhone 15 Pro Max, all with the smallest storage capacity available. But it is the two high-end models (Pro and Pro Max) that show the most significant increase in production costs.
The reasons behind this increase in costs are several. The growing complexity of smartphone technology, the increase in raw material prices and challenges related to the global chip shortage. Apple has been able to shoulder these higher costs this year, but may be forced to pass on some of this increase to consumers in the future. This could result in higher prices for iPhones starting in 2024.
Part of the cost increase, however, also depends on the quality of the components. The iPhone 15 series has more advanced photography capabilities, faster processors and cutting-edge display technology.
The Cupertino company is dealing with the complexities of global supply chain and with the increase in component costs. However, it continues to hold a strong position in the market and is expected to adapt to these challenges in the coming years. In the future, therefore, we expect to see innovations in iPhones. With Apple having to figure out how to balance innovation, rising costs and the price of the device.
