From 2005 to the present, Activision has always released a new chapter of Call of Duty every year: apparently, however, in 2023 things will change. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the company plans to postpone the new chapter of Call of Duty, scheduled for next year. Let’s find out all the details together.
No new Call of Duty chapter in 2023?
SCOOP: For the first time in two decades, Call of Duty will skip a year. Activision has delayed 2023’s game, made by Treyarch, to 2024, sources tell Bloomberg. It’s a shocking move that will have a massive impact on the franchise and the industry. https://t.co/tiozvqB1cE

Activision has decided to postpone the new chapterwhich according to Schreier is developed by Treyarch (Call of Duty: Black Ops), after last year’s annual release, Call of Duty: Vanguard, did not meet expectations. This led executives to “suspect it was ruined by the previous year’s game,” Schreier reports. A recent SEC filing said Vanguard failed to please Activision’s fourth quarter projections.
It therefore appears that Activision will not publish a new chapter of the famous series next year. However he nevertheless revealed that will release more Call of Duty content. The 2022 title, which will be a sequel di Call of Duty: Modern Warfare of 2019, will have “a constant stream of additional content”. There is also a new game online free-to-play which will be available in 2023. Activision spokesperson Neil Wood said:
We have an exciting list of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond. Reports of something else are incorrect. We can’t wait to share more details when the time is right.
Activision announced initial details on the sequel di Modern Warfare and on one “New Warzone experience” early February. Both are expected to debut this year. While Activision has said they will be “designed together from scratch,” it’s unclear whether the new Warzone is a full sequel or just a big one update of the existing game. However, both will be powered by a new engine.
Activision came under significant scrutiny following the famous California lawsuit that accuses it of fostering a culture of “constant sexual harassment” and union protests by employees, including some who work on Call of Duty. In January, Microsoft announced it had bought the company for $ 68.7 billion, although the deal isn’t expected to close until Microsoft’s fiscal year 2023, which begins in July.
