The type of situation that requires immediate communication to everyone in a specific geographic area.
The system is based on the technology of cell-broadcast (or Short Message Service-Cell Broadcast, SMS-CB). This technology allows the sending of one-way messages to all cellular devices connected to specific cell phones.
In the first tests, such as the one in Tuscany, even people who were in neighboring regions found the emergency notification on their smartphone. This is because they were connected to the same cell.
The test into Emilia Romagna follows that in Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily and Calabria. This one-way communication system does not pose risks to users. Instead, it allows you to warn of potentially catastrophic events. So it’s best to keep it active. And still hope you never need it.
