In 1997 i Radiohead they published Ok Computer. An album that certainly needs no introduction. Definitive turning point for the Oxford band and musical milestone, between references to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and sounds that definitively put an end to the Britpop era. But what would that record be like if it were played by a computer? On the contrary: What would Radiohead’s Ok Computer look like if it was played on a Nintendo 64?
For the younger ones, the Nintendo 64, also known as N64, is an iconic video game console, launched on the market in 1997 when Ok Computer was released.
Here’s Ok Computer by Radiohead, but played by the Nintendo 64
A user on YouTube named on4word, not new to these experiments, has borrowed the sounds of some of the most popular console games from the Big N to recreate the Radiohead album in its entirety. The name of the project? Ok Ninetendo 64, of course.
The result is downright incredible and alienating, as you can hear for yourself below.
Among the championship games we find Super Mario 64, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Golden Eye 007′, ‘Banjo Kazooie, Yoshi’s Story e Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
The soundtrack of Super Mario 64, for example, was used to recreate the songs Airbag, Subterranean Homesick Alien and Fitter Happier, while Karma Police was made with the sounds of Star Fox 64.
As anticipated, on4word is not new to these experiments. In the past he had already released other video game covers of famous songs, such as The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala; Alberto Balsalm of Aphex Twin and Head Like A Hole of Nine Inch Nails.
Ok Nintendo 64 by on4word is also available for listening on Bandcamp.
