According to the GoodEReader editors, a new generation of Kindle Paperwhite appears to have just been leaked. A comparison chart would have appeared on Amazon Canada, where two new devices are shown, a Kindle Paperwhite from $ 149.99 (about $ 117) and a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition from $ 209.99 (about $ 164). Both devices feature a larger 6.8-inch E Ink display than the current 6-inch Paperwhite. Exclusives of the more expensive model are the new wireless charging, the increased storage space and the lights that can be adjusted according to the brightness of the environment.
New Kindle Paperwhite Coming Soon? Here is the leak
According to leaks, the standard Kindle Paperwhite appears to include 8 GB of storage space, whereas the Signature Edition would have 32, exactly like the current Paperwhite model. Also the resolution of 300 ppi is unchanged. However, the amount of LEDs for the front light of the device has gone from 5 to 17 and the color temperature should also be adjustable. The waterproofing is also unchanged, while Wi-Fi connectivity is included.
Although the new Kindle Paperwhites seem to inherit some features from the Oasis, the latter will still retain some exclusive features as Amazon’s premium e-reader.
Let’s talk about elements like ergonomic design, auto-rotating page orientation and physical buttons to turn the page; always based on the comparative table subject to leak.
Unfortunately, there is no mention of the type of USB connector the new Kindles will use, so it’s unclear if Amazon plans to finally upgrade them to USB-C. An update in this sense would be a must given that the current Kindles still make use of a Micro USB connection.
In any case, the leak in question seems rather concrete and solid, so we can reasonably expect an official announcement from Amazon soon.
