Apple is revolutionizing its line of computers and laptops by equipping them with chips Silicon home built and based on ARM. But despite this transition, it seems that in 2022 the Apple will present a Mac Pro with Intel processor alongside its alternative with Apple M.
In 2022, Macs will still have Intel chips
Mac Pros are the line of computers designed for professionals: video editors, designers who work in 3D. The type of customers who care less about efficiency than the pure power and the full compatibility with the software he uses (and which has often paid very dearly). So it looks like Apple will propose an Apple Silicon version of the Mac Pro, which will also be much smaller in design. But also a version with chip Intel Xeon Scalable and updated hardware.
This choice could be perceived as a lack of confidence on the part of Apple in its chip. But it should be borne in mind that Mac Pros serve an audience of users (animators, video makers, editing directors) who may prefer Intel processors for compatibility issues. On MacBooks, Apple uses Rosetta 2 to ‘translate’ apps designed for Intel processors to work best on ARM chips. But given the heavier workloads, this lightning-fast technology on MacBooks could cost slowdowns on more powerful Macs.
However, the transition should only be temporary. The arrival of the M1 chips has convinced companies like Adobe to launch versions of PhotoShop and Illustrator designed specifically for Apple Silicon chips. The Apple points to the fact that, once the power of the 32-core CPU chip and 128 graphics cores who has designed, even those who develop programs for special effects, animation and 3D graphics do the same.
The new Mac Pros are expected to be presented in June 2022. So we will have to wait even more than six months to understand Apple’s strategy in this area. In the meantime, we will keep you updated for any news.
