Well yes, Meta also launches into the world of generative artificial intelligence (AI) that creates music with MusicGen. But you don’t tell SIAE. The technology does exactly what it promises: it generates small pieces of music from a text command, a bit like AIs like Dall-E do with images. However, there are substantial differences.
To train the AI, the Meta team used approx 20,000 hours of licensed music. So no copyright issues, unlike what’s happening in the rest of the world. Specifically, the AI leverages on an internal dataset of around 10,000 high-quality music tracks.
The model is able to learn the style, structure and characteristics of different musical genres, such as pop, rock, jazz and classical music. Furthermore, the user will be able to upload his own mp3 file including melodies, in order to help the AI in the creation.
How to try MusicGen – Meta’s artificial intelligence for music creation
We don’t currently know when AI will be available to everyone. However, the researchers have made an online demo available.
To use it, just go to this link and enter a text description of the musical genre and the desired characteristics. At that point the system will generate an audio file in MP4 format. Also in the demo stage it is also possible to add a melody in MP3 format to influence the creation.
