With the acquisition of Activsion Blizzard Microsoft is preparing to enormously enrich the ecosystem Xbox and the Game Pass offer, but not the console market is not the only sector that the Redmond giant will attack thanks to this latest purchase: Activision Blizzard also has the developer of Candy Crush, now fully owned by Microsoft, which has become in an instant a powerhouse even in the mobile field.

Candy Crush will therefore become an integral part of the American company’s catalog, at least when the agreement ends in 2023. That of Candy Crush is a franchise that has proven it can be a lasting success, just think that the analytics company Sensor Tower estimates that, since January 2014, this title has generated about $ 7.1 billion, while its spinoff Candy Crush Soda Saga has grossed $ 2.9 billion.
It is no coincidence that after the acquisition of King (the developer of Candy Crush, the mobile sector has become an increasingly important part of Activision’s business. Call of Duty Mobile, created in collaboration with Tencent, is a huge and much loved game around the world, not to mention that Blizzard also plans to launch a smartphone version of Diablo.
Just recently Activision revealed that King it is currently its highest-grossing division, with net sales of $ 652 million during the third quarter of 2021. By contrast, Microsoft has always struggled in the mobile sector, as Minecraft is practically its only successful hit; on the other hand, the Redmond giant focused more on gaming in cloud.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard and consequently of King, however, could change the cards a lot, given that Microsoft would have practically the leaders of the mobile sector at its disposal. Whether or not it will yield this potential, however, we will only find out in the future.
