The world of video games is having an important generational change. PlayStation 5 e Microsoft Xbox Series X|S they are the obligatory purchase of all gaming lovers, but purchases are proceeding slowly due to the lack of chips. Which will continue next year, according to what was said by Phil Spencer.
Less Xbox in 2022 due to lack of chips (not just for Microsoft)
Speaking to The Wrap website, Phil Spencer, head of the video game business for Microsoft, explained that the problem is the chips. But not just the chips: “I think the chip problem has been too isolated. For example, we have not discussed all the elements needed to build a console. There are several critical points in this regard, a complex supply chain that goes further. For this, we must be realistic and state that the shift in production will continue for the next few months, certainly until the end of this and the next calendar year ”.
Manufacturers of consoles and PC components have had to endure 18 months of trouble making their products. On the one hand, a huge question: people want the next generation consoles, to play at 120Hz and take advantage of all the new features of PS5 and Series X | S. On the other side, the supply chain has proceeded slowly. A complex situation, which according to Spencer could continue for a long time.
If console deliveries have been slow, it depends on the many companies that contribute to producing the console. And who have had to face shortages of raw materials and semi-finished products. An example is Toshiba, which among the many components also produces semiconductors, necessary for the increasingly smart accessories and computational units. Takeshi Kamebuchi recently he ruthless to Bloomberg: “The supply of chips will remain reduced at least until September next year. In some cases, the demand of some customers could remain unsatisfied until 2023 ”.
It therefore seems that gaming fans will still have to wait a bit. Buying a new generation console is no longer impossible as it was immediately after the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, when the expectations were enormous. But we still need to be patient.
