Mojang, the development house of Minecraft, celebrates YouTube’s trillion views today and does it with a… YouTube video!
Minecraft thanks its community for YouTube views
There comes an important milestone for Minecraft, hugely popular sandbox game developed by Mojang. What initially started out as a video game about dodging explosions, has over time become a blank canvas on which players have been able to create entire worlds. Creativity is in fact the real engine of this video game, which leads users to create content, upload it to YouTube and generate millions of views. And it is precisely these views that we talk about today: Mojang has indeed announced that Minecraft videos on YouTube have surpassed the trillion views. And to thank the community and fans, comes a video that shows us how Minecraft has evolved over the years.
But why is it so successful online? To give us an answer to this question is Lydia Winters, head of Minecraft’s Storytelling Department, stating:
“The reason Minecraft has been so successful on YouTube is because our platform allows you to create and tell stories. Minecraft represents a real creative tool for the creation of contents that find their space on YouTube “
According to the numbers reported by The Verge, the Minecraft YouTube community has over 35,000 creators from around 150 countries. Among the most popular there is also Jake Fellman, which creates shorts inspired by the world of Minecraft, although these are made with computer graphics. He is one of the most loved creators by the game community and beyond: he praises him too Earnest Pettie, responsible for YouTube culture and trend insights.
Minecraft is the most popular game ever on YouTube. In 2020, it earned over 200 billion views. In second place, curiously, we find Roblox, another sandbox-style game.
