Apparently Spotify is about to introduce the possibility of watch music videos of songs playing. The news, which for now is just an unconfirmed rumor from the streaming giant, comes from Bloomberg.
What will music videos be like on Spotify? Here’s what we know
After investing heavily in podcasts over the last few years, Spotify now seems to have shifted its focus to video content. A choice that aims to conquer a wider audience, thus placing itself in direct competition with YouTube and TikTok. In fact, on both social media, music plays a fundamental role, albeit in decidedly different ways.
A first step in this direction had already arrived at the beginning of the year, when Spotify introduced the feature Clips. This allows artists to add a short video in vertical format with a maximum duration of 30 seconds to their profile (or even to their song). However the introduction of official music videos would be something quite different, that it would make Spotify a service more like YouTube Music.
It therefore remains to be understood how the official videos will be available on the platform, given that these are generally shot in horizontal format. According to Bloomberg Spotify is currently developing and internally testing the inclusion of a new layer for in-app video. Video layer which, we recall, is already present for podcast content that includes the visual format (you see Wild Moss). For podcasts, the video format is that horizontal. It is very likely that the platform will decide to keep this format for the artists’ official videos as well.
For further confirmations, however, we just have to wait.
