Netflix will stream certain state TV channels in Russia. This is not a commercial maneuver by the company, leader in the world of streaming TV, but an imposition by the Russian government. All the streaming applications they reach 100 thousand unique users per day (easy-to-reach numbers for Netflix in Russia) will have to broadcast state TV channels.
Netflix prepares to broadcast state TV channels in Russia
Naturally, in Italy it will not be possible to follow Russian channels via Netflix. Only users of the service in Russia will be able to count on this “plus” to their subscription. Netflix, according to local media, has until March 2022 to adapt to the new legislation. Overall, Netflix will be obliged to welcome 20 channels within its application. For Russian users, therefore, there will be an additional platform to follow the channels of state TV which, like RAI in Italy, offers not only information but also entertainment content. Note that there is also a channel dedicated to the Russian Orthodox Church.
Stop to “extremisms”
Among the new rules that Netflix and other streaming services will have to comply with is it stop publishing content that could promote “extremism”. At the moment, it is not clear what kind of content will be blocked. It is possible to assume that this is an attempt to censorship of political dissidents who should not influence the entertainment content made available to users. More details will certainly arrive in the coming weeks.
