The Nintendo Switch continues to be popular, reaching an important record for consoles sold. In fact, according to what was reported on the Investor Relations (IR) page of Nintendo’s Japanese website, the Nintendo Switch has sold so far 132.46 million units since its launch in March 2017.
This number includes the base model Nintendo Switch, the newer Nintendo Switch OLED, and the cheaper Nintendo Switch Lite.
The Switch surpasses the Wii in the ranking of the best-selling Nintendo consoles
This is an extraordinary result, if you consider that the Nintendo 3DSthe company’s previous line of laptops, sold out in total 75.94 million units. But not only that: the Nintendo Switch also surpassed the Nintendo Wii, the console it sold 101.63 million unitsand is approaching the Nintendo DS, the best-selling portable console ever with 154.02 million units.
This success is also due to the quality and variety of games available for the Nintendo Switch. In fact, even the titles recorded impressive sales: 1,133.23 million units to date.
Among the most popular titles, it stands out The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwhich sold 19.50 million units in just a few months, becoming one of the most beloved games on the system. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that the data is updated as of September 30thso they don’t take into account the effect of other popular games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which has received great reviews and could further boost software and hardware sales in the coming months.
It’s best not to forget that we are close to Black Friday and the Christmas holidays, so Nintendo’s numbers can only increase during this period.
