We’re getting to that point where the allure of technology borders on the creepy. Meta has announced a VR concert of the late Notorious B.I.G.rap music legend murdered in 1997. He will be revived in digital version for a special “hyper-realistic” VR concert.
The event will be held on December 16th, in exactly one month, and will feature a “hyper-realistic avatar” of Biggie. The show will happen on Meta’s Horizon Worlds, which for the occasion will become a virtual version of Brooklyn in the 90s. Among the announced guests there will also be Sean “Diddy” Combs (founder of Bad Boy Records).
The announcement of Meta’s VR concert unleashes controversy on the net
The announcement of the concert has generated quite a few criticisms from fans online, many of which find of bad taste found it. However, Meta reassured that the initiative was born with the support of the late rapper’s heirs, stating that the concert will be a tribute to the life and music of Christopher George Latore Wallace (real name of Notorious BIG).
It is not the first time that disappeared artists have been revived in the form of virtual entities. In 2012, on the occasion of the Coachella Festival, a hologram was projected in homage to another legend of rap music: Tupacwhose feud with Biggie shaped 90’s hip-hop culture.
We remind you that to access Meta Horizon Worlds you need to use a Meta Quest VR viewer. The concert will then be streamed again in video version on the official Facebook page of The Notorious BIG
Is this the future of “live” music? Virtual avatars of deceased artists?
