Nvidia announced ULMB 2 at Computex 2023: it is a technology that Minimizes motion blur in games su monitor ad high refresh rate. Providing performance that, without ULMB 2, they would ask to have a 1440Hz monitor.
Nvidia ULMB 2, sharp images at high refresh rates
ULMB 2 only works on monitor G-Sync 1440p 360Hz at the moment. But Nvidia claims that he offers effective motion clarity of over 1000Hz with “virtually zero” crosstalk. This means that we will no longer have to give up on a higher refresh rate or reduced motion blur, both of which affect gameplay.
Nvidia says the effective movement speed for a 360Hz monitor with ULMB 2 enabled is 1440Hz. “This means that to get the same level of motion clarity without ULMB 2, gamers would need a classic panel capable of 1440Hz,” Nvidia says. The only downside: you can’t use a variable refresh rate.
ULMB 2 improves upon the original technology ULMB launched in 2015, which used a technique called backlight strobing to improve motion clarity. With ULMB 2, Nvidia is able to synchronize the refresh rate of the display with the turning on and off of the backlight.
The goal is to turn on the backlight only when the pixels have reached the correct color value for each frame. This reduces crosstalk, a problem that creates double images on the display when an object is moving. It also offers 250 nits brightness, which Nvidia says it does nearly double the brightness offered by the original ULMB. You can see the effect in the video below.
Currently, you can only use the feature on Acer Predator XB273U F o ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN, after updating the firmware. But new products are coming, like AOC AGON AG276QSG e ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QPwhich will have a 540Hz refresh rate.
