This is not the first mechanical keyboard we have seen, but certainly it is one of the most comfortable. We are talking about Perixx PERIBOARD-835 and this is our review. Let’s start by saying that this is not a keyboard like any other. The design is one of a kind and that makes it, as well as beautiful to look at, a real pleasure to use for long work and play sessions. Perixx PERIBOARD-835 review: design and construction
The designers of this keyboard did a great job to create an ergonomic product, but at the same time very elegant. The result is this Perixx PERIBOARD-835, a small design masterpiece. The keys have been separated into two inclined islands for ergonomic reasons in order to reduce pronation and abduction of the wrist. The two islands are highlighted by two aluminum plates with a slightly satin finish, an element of great value and elegance which gives excellent solidity to the structure. Then we have the rubber palm rest with a finish that resembles carbon fiber. In any case, the palm rest also tries to follow the natural curvature of the body to improve ergonomics.
The mechanical keys of the Perixx PERIBOARD-835 (available in three different switch options) are a real pleasure. Obviously the experience varies depending on the option you choose, but it’s about Excellent quality keys with truly excellent tactile and sound feedback it is satisfying. Furthermore, each key is equipped with independent and fully customizable RGB LED backlighting. Although RGB LEDs are often associated with gaming products and therefore a bit tacky, in this keyboard the implementation is still very sober, with soft and not too saturated lighting.
We also have the option to adjust the feet even with a negative inclination. This means that your wrists will be slightly higher than your fingers, avoiding keeping them tense while using the keyboard. Yet another ergonomic choice on this mechanical keyboard that helps reduce stress on your hands and forearms.
The construction, as already mentioned, is excellent. Everyone the materials are high quality and give excellent feedback. The keyboard is very solid and stable on the desk. No perceived creaking. Really excellent work from this point of view.
Perixx PERIBOARD-835 review: user experience
The ergonomic design choices are felt when using this keyboard. Resting your wrists, you immediately feel at ease. Then starting to type the enjoyment continues. The keys give precise feedback, they are easy to find even without looking. While it may take a little to get used to the split island design, it’s totally worth it. The keyboard has a full-size layout with numeric keypad and includes 104 keys, some programmable at our pleasure. There is no shortage of function and multimedia keys. The entire keyboard has been designed to be comfortably used with different operating systems, in particular Windows and Mac with the various dedicated keys.
Perixx PERIBOARD-835 vanta a wide range of connection options. We will have the classic USB dongle with 2.4 GHz transmitter (included). Or we have the Bluetooth 5.0 connection, with two independent channels. Finally we have the wired connection via USB-C cable (included). The latter also acts as a charging cable for the internal battery, so we won’t have to worry about changing the batteries. Switching from one channel to another is possible seamlessly with a dedicated key, effectively allowing you to use the keyboard with different devices at the same time.
The RGB backlighting is fully customizable with many color effects that can be programmed independently on each single key. This is not a purely aesthetic feature, but also a functional one. In fact, we will be able to associate different colors with the various keys depending on the functionality, for example to highlight the short cuts of a certain application or the commands of a certain game. Thanks to the possibility of store up to 3 configurations for quick access via dedicated keys, we can switch between layouts in an instant.
Conclusions
We believe that Perixx PERIBOARD-835 is a somewhat particular mechanical keyboard, different from the standard and for this very reason extremely interesting. The design has been carefully thought out to make it very convenient to use, but also beautiful to look at. The materials are premium and give them elegance and solidity. The multiple connection options and customization possibilities do their part on the productivity side. And then the feedback from the keys is really excellent.
We struggle to find a real flaw. Maybe the fact that you will have to get used to the new design a little? We struggle to define it as a problem. Perhaps the price of around 170 euros? But if we look at the prices of mechanical keyboards in the same range we don’t differ too much. In short, this product is absolutely recommended!
