Perixx PERIDUO-605 review: ergonomic keyboard and unique vertical mouse kit!

In this review we will analyze Perixx PERIDUO-605, a truly unique ergonomic keyboard and vertical mouse kit due to its truly original design choices. But will they also be functional?

In this review we bring you a truly unique ergonomic keyboard and vertical mouse kit. In fact, it introduces a series of design choices totally dedicated to the ergonomics and well-being of our hands, as well as productivity. The separation of the keys into two groups to facilitate the use of both hands, the possibility of using one “negative” inclination and the wheel in the center of the keyboard are peculiar choices that we have never seen all together in this type of product. So, without further hesitation, let’s move on to the Perixx PERIDUO-605 review.

Perixx PERIDUO-605 review: design

The design is certainly the strong point of this product. This is a keyboard with ergonomic design, optimized on multiple fronts. Unlike traditional keyboards which are “flat” or almost, Perixx PERIDUO-605 has been developed in three dimensions, focusing on 3 key points to improve ergonomics.

Let’s start with the monobloc divided into two distinct regions oriented with an angle of approximately 30 degrees, recalling the natural posture of the forearms while sitting at the desk. Secondly the keyboard surface is curved, with the central part slightly raised. This also serves to maintain a more natural and less stressful posture for our hands. Finally it is delivered an additional support for the palm rest which tilts the keyboard towards the screen and not towards the ceiling or towards us. This means that we won’t have to stiffen our wrists and keep our palms tense to type. Finally the gem: the clickable wheel that imitates that of the mouseright in the center of the keyboard allows you to avoid using the mouse sometimes to scroll through web pages or documents.

The only flaw is that the keys have different sizes, probably to make the most of the curved surface. The problem is that some, for example the left shift, they are very small and difficult to press. Another problem I encountered is the position of the directional arrows, a little awkward to reach if you use the palm rest support. I would have preferred them a little higher.

Il mouse marries vertical design, with 5 clickable buttons and the navigation dial arranged in such a way that they can be easily operated with just one hand. The slight protrusion that allows you to rest your thumb is also convenient. In general it brings most of the benefits of vertical mice on an ergonomic level.

Perixx PERIDUO-605 review: build quality

In terms of materials and construction quality, we could have done a little better. The material used is a medium-low quality plastic. Light and not very substantial, it does not give an idea of structural solidity to the touch. You don’t have the perception of using a premium product, but an economical one instead. Also the We found key feedback not very incisive: the activation force is light and the click shallow.

The palm rest attachment attaches with fairly weak magnets. The coupling system then It’s a little unstable and the keyboard tends to wobble a bit when you don’t support the weight of both hands. Sometimes you can even notice it during use and it becomes a bit annoying. Overall, we could have done better on this front.

Perixx PERIDUO-605 review: user experience

After trying it for about 15 days, I can say that the ergonomic design choices feel. Once you have overcome an initial phase of alienation and become familiar with the new design, you notice the benefits. Your hands and wrists are under less stress, especially coming from a small, flat keyboard. However, I noticed already after the first few minutes of use less stress on the hands, much more relaxed. Thanks to the attached dongle, it connects to the PC immediately and we have never encountered stability problems in the connection. Both the mouse (adjustable to 3 DPI levels) and the keyboard respond responsively.

The central wheel of the keyboard intrigued me a lot: it could potentially be an exceptional productivity tool for those who work on large spreadsheets or in software development and often have to move their hand from keyboard to mouse. In reality, this ring has a big flaw: the activation force is so low that it very often happens that you click it inadvertently, greatly limiting its potential. Also, having only one degree of freedom, it becomes a bit limiting. Why not consider integrating a small directional pad like the one found in some Lenovo models?

Globally anyway the user experience was positive, especially when it comes to ergonomics. A bit of a bad taste in the mouth due to productivity instead.

Conclusions

Is Perixx PERIDUO-605 worth it? The price to pay is 59.99 euros for the wireless version. Not exactly a cheap price, considering the wired version it costs only 34.99 euros. If the wired version actually offers an acceptable value for money, net of the great ergonomic benefits and small defects in terms of design and construction, the wireless version could be a little overpriced. In general, this is a one-of-a-kind ergonomic keyboard and vertical mouse kit that is truly very comfortable to use. However, we believe Perixx can further improve this product to take it to a higher level!

Points in favor

  • One of a kind design
