DHL became the most imitated brand by cybercriminals last December, surpassing Microsoft. Confirmation comes from Check Point Research, the Threat Intelligence division of Check Point Software Technologies which published the Brand Phishing Report relating to the last quarter of 2021.
DHL is the brand most imitated by cybercriminals in phishing attempts
Social media is among the brands most copied by cybercriminals attempting phishing attacks. WhatsApp and LinkedIn, in particular, occupy the third and fifth place of the ranking created by Check Point Research. Leading this ranking is however DHL. The brand is, in fact, the most imitated by cybercriminals in December with hackers who tried to exploit the holiday shopping period to deceive consumers and steal sensitive data. DHL has achieved 23% of phishing attempts globally. The Top 10 of the most imitated brands includes, after DHL, Microsoft in second place, WhatsApp, Google, LinkedIn, Amazon, Fedex, Roblox, PayPal e Apple.

In their attempts to steal personal data or distribute malware on a user’s system, they often take advantage of consumer trends by mimicking popular brands. Last quarter, for the first time, we saw DHL topping the rankings of the most imitated brands, presumably to take advantage of the surge in new and potentially vulnerable online shoppers during the busiest time of the year. “
