To create and foster a healthy debate on climate change, Pinterest has adopted a new policy that fights disinformation.
Pinterest for a better future: the new policy against disinformation
As part of the Pinterest community guidelines, the platform has updated its disinformation policy. From today, any content, accidental or intentional, that could harm the well-being, safety or trust of the public will be removed. This is a stance that aims to foster a healthier debate on sensitive issues, such as on issues relating to climate change.
Specifically, here are the contents that will be removed:
- Content that denies the existence or impact of climate change, man’s effect on climate change or the fact that climate change is supported by the scientific community
- False or misleading contents on solutions to combat climate change, which are in contradiction with the opinion of the scientific community.
- Content that skews scientific data, such as omissions or partial selections, in order to undermine trust in science and experts
- False or misleading and potentially harmful content related to public safety emergencies, including natural disasters and extreme weather conditions.
The new guidelines also include advertisements. These may not contain references to conspiracy theories or, more generally, unverified information on climate change.
