On the occasion of 21° Safer Internet Day, PlayStation announces progress to strengthen online security for its community of more than 100 million monthly active users. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) outlines a strategy based on three fundamental pillars: “Enforce”, “Control”e “Shield”.
PlayStation and gamer online safety
PlayStation explains that it is keen to enforce its Code of Conductwhich allows you to protect all users on the PlayStation Network (PSN). SIE has updated and refined the Code, clearly separating it from the PSN Terms of Service and User Agreement. Among the information present, there are guidelines for combating online hatred, which are updated periodically.
Another fundamental aspect is the moderation. SIE explains that it has a highly human moderation team that reviews the content 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in over 30 languages. This process includes moderation of messages, voice chats, profile contents, User-reported Game Base group names, online IDs, and in-game communications.
Also important is the fact that users have the possibility to appeal against suspensions, helping to educate the community.
SIE takes a proactive approach to ensure players can protect themselves from negative experiences. Tools like “block,” “silence,” and “report” make it easier to do this. Recently, it also introduced the function of “default block”avoiding repeated negative experiences if the “report” function had been used.
PlayStation’s commitment also extends to the protection of younger players. With tools parental control, players can protect even the little ones. Furthermore, PlayStation is experimenting age verification technologies in some markets, with the aim of offering an age-appropriate experience for young players.
In short: online security doesn’t just mean activating an antivirus. Protecting users and providing tools to protect themselves also plays an important role. Find further information on the dedicated SIE website.
