In the new episode of the PlayStation Podcast, the Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishinostated that PlayStation VR 2 will not be backwards compatible with PSVRas “designed to offer a truly next-generation VR experience”.
The news was met with disappointment by fans on social media. In fact, the players will be forced to keep the old viewers, as on the new ones, many of the titles already purchased, will not work.
Because PSVR games will not be compatible with PlayStation VR 2
The lack of backward compatibility with previous versions is actually nothing surprising given the now obsolete technology behind the first PSVR. He explained it well Sam WattsImmersive Partnerships Director of Make Real Ltd, who told NME microphones:
“It’s a shame for both users and developers. But from a technical standpoint it makes sense, especially since PSVR relied on PS Move controllers and older DualShocks. Remapping them would be a huge effort for a minimum profit. “
The likelihood of PSVR titles being ported or updated to run on PSVR2 is therefore theoretically possible. It will be up to the developers of the titles to decide whether the port is worth it or not.
In the meantime, the PSVR 2 release is scheduled for 2023.
According to the first published details regarding the new viewers, users will be able to take advantage of the broadcast function for PS VR2 to shoot yourself during the game by connecting a PS5 HD camera to the console. Sony clarifies that there will be a chance to customize the play area using PS VR2 Sense controllers and integrated cameras.
