From this morning the site of Poste Italiane is down: it is feared it could be the attack heralded by the Russian hackers of Killnet. The group of cybercriminals had announced that an “irreparable blow to Italy” would come today. Making cybersecurity experts fear the worst.
Poste Italiane down: the fault of the Russian hackers of Killnet?
From this morning of Monday 30 May, the site Downdetector reports a boom in reports on the site and services of Poste Italiane. Throughout Italy several users are denouncing disservices on Twitterwith some reporting that some offices have even closed to the public to handle the problem.
The fear on the part of many commentators stems from words from the group of cybercriminals Killnet, which, however, has also been carrying out ‘political’ attacks in recent weeks. The Russian hackers had promised a “Irreparable blow “ntoday and many on the net suspect it may be an offensive against the post office.
A possible attack on the Italian Post Office systems would be truly sensational. Not only do they manage the correspondencebut also operations and Bank services for millions of Italians. And let’s not forget the fact that for many it is the manager of thedigital identity.
Killnet hackers have not so far demonstrated capabilities that endanger user data. But blocking the post office services for even just a few hours would have a huge impact.
However, Poste Italiane reports that the problem is technical, not hackers. “The technical problem, which occurred this morning in the post offices is due to an update of the system”And not a cyber attack. So it seems that the problems of Poste are just a coincidence. Indeed, Poste ensures that the problem is “being resolved”.
Despite this, the alarm remains high. The Corriere della Sera reports that too the ASL of Rome is having problems in the management of reservations. And any glitches today will do anyway the specter of the hacker attack hovering, a sign that the ‘threat’ of Killnet is already having an effect.
We will keep you updated on the development of the issue, but at the moment the official sources do not confirm any hacker attacks.
