According to a new study by Trend Microil 58% of organizations in Italy was hit by a ransomware attack in the past three years. 58% of organizations in Italy have suffered from ransomware attacks
According to the Trend Micro study “EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED: Uncovering the ransomware threat from global supply chains”, the ransomware situation in our country is complicated. In fact more than half have suffered attacks from this like in just three years.
And according to the responses of IT managers, the80% think their partners and customers make them coveted targets by cybercriminals. Furthermore, since the 56% of the suppliers of many organizations are SMEs, potentially more exposed to these attacks, the risk is really very high.
Despite these problems, communication between supply chain companies is not always transparent. Only 51% disclose ransomware attack data to vendors. And the 37% do not inform partners about threats.
But the problem, according to Trend Micro, is that companies often have little to communicate. In fact, the detection rates are very low for:
- Ransomware (54%)
- Data exfiltration (44%)
- Initial login (41%)
- Use of tools like PSexec, Cobalt Strike (35%)
- Lateral movements (29%)
Alessandro Fontana, Head of Sales of Trend Micro Italy, explains: “57% of Italian companies have seen at least one other organization within their supply chain be hit by a ransomware attack and this puts their systems potentially at risk of compromise. However, many do not take steps to improve partner cybersecurity. The first step in mitigating these risks must be greater visibility and control over the ever-expanding digital attack surface ”.
Working together is the only way to go, not least because 60% of those who have suffered a ransomware attack say that the attackers have contacted customers or partners about the violation to force payment. You can find more information here.
