After the first five episodes of Only Murders in the Building 3, this week we witnessed one very different episode than usual, more focused on the increasingly complex dynamics within the trio. The episode opens with a small return to the past, with the trio wanting to investigate together, like they used to, and go to the theater to seek further answers. However, the situation soon degenerates and everyone ends up following their own path, as has happened since the beginning of the season, however this time leading to a thunderous breakup.
Trama e trailer | Review Only Murders in the Building 3: episodio 6
The events all take place in the theater where the show directed by Oliver should have been staged. Between legends about the ghosts that inhabit the building and the appearance of new characters, in possession of what turns out to be important information on Ben’s murder, there is also room for the character of Howard Morris (Michael Cyril Creightonche). After remaining in the background for five episodes, he too takes part in the dynamics of the investigation and also reveals another completely new side of himself.
The central point of the episode, however, revolves around the dynamics, now worn out, that regulate the trio of protagonists. From the beginning of the season the intolerance that binds the three protagonists is clear, with Oliver taken almost exclusively by his show, Mabel abandoned in the investigation by her friends and Charles unable to take a decisive direction at this moment in his life. These frictions explode at the end of the episode when Oliver, to protect Loretta’s obsession with Ben, erases the writing on the dressing room, while harshly accusing Mabel and Charles. The former is now tired of being ignored, of carrying out alone those investigations that formed the heart of their friendship. The second finds himself in a sea of personal problems, unable to recover from the breakup with Joy.
New loves blossom, one fades | Only Murders in the Building 3 review: episode 6
The theater frame and the mysteries linked to the ghosts of actors who mysteriously died makes everything more intriguing and brings the plot back in a mystery direction, at the expense of humor. Of course, there is never a shortage of smile-inducing moments in Only Murders in The Building. The central element, however, is seeing the trio once again on the trail of a possible culprit, even if each experiences the investigation in a totally different way, which gives a bitter aftertaste to the screening.
It comes out very badly Oliverwho in an attempt to defend his love with Lorettalong dreamed and longed for, not only turns his back on his friends, but also on his ideals and the search for truth. Charles he continues to drown in his own vortex of negativity, which casts a shadow over both his personal and professional life. Whoever comes out best from this whole situation seems to be, paradoxically, Mabelwho despite everything finds himself with a new partner in crime, Tobert. The timing of this character, however, becomes increasingly suspicious.
Conclusions
Episode 6 of Only Murders in the Building 3 marks a turning point, in many ways. Oliver has made his move, he has chosen love and will fight to defend it. Charles must find meaning in his life. Mabel, with Tobert at her side and Cinda on the horizon, can finally focus on the case, which she has yet to get to the heart of and will do so soon, given that there are only four episodes left. Weeks go by, and… Only Murders in the Building therefore confirms itself as a series capable of providing interesting episodes on timefull of ideas and also created with great wisdom.
Plus points
- The development of the dynamics between the protagonists is excellent
- Sharp and almost “film-like” photography
Points against
- It was reasonable to expect a real breakthrough in the case at this point
