Captain Carter and Steve Rogers: a story without a happy ending | Review What If…? 2 episode 8
In this series, as in the first, alternative futures are proposed for the most (or least) beloved characters of the Marvel cinematic universe. In the eighth and penultimate episode of the second season we meet all the characters seen in the previous ones, but in a bygone era. Four hundred years ago we exploded that Thor is the king of a kingdom whose peace is shattered by strange rifts in the sky that swallow up people. With the help of Scarlet Witch, Captain Carter is called back to that world, who involves Tony Stark (who here is the village idiot, given the extreme extemporaneousness of his inventions) in the search. He also intervenes to help him Steve Rogers, who together with Bucky and Ant Man form a team of bandits who steal from the rich to give to the poor.
In such a world it is easy to go from riches to rags and in fact Captain Carter, as a possible savior, is pointed out as the cause of the bizarre disappearances that plague the kingdom. Thus begins a mission to uncover the mystery.
Intertwining between past and present
The episode is very interesting and funny. The many sketches between the most iconic characters of the Marvel universe are a fan service well appreciated, the plot is not affected and actually benefits from it. The story is also interesting, although one has the feeling (as has been the case throughout the season so far) that one could always dare a little more. The conclusion is worthy of the high level demonstrated so far, and paves the way for the final episode. Ultimately, a good level episode that helps you grow curiosity for the season finale.
Points in favor
- Very funny episode
- We’re starting to understand the ending
Points against
- Ultimately it lacks character
