The war between the two also continues on the cyber front Russia e Ukrainewith a hacker attack which is creating numerous disruptions in Moscow. The Russian capital would in fact be in blackout digitalewithout having access to the internet and television services.
Ukraine’s cyber attack on Russia
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, a group of Ukrainian hackers managed to infiltrate the system of the Moscow internet provider M9com. Sources suggest that the operation may have been supported by intelligence agencies. The attack led to the server collapsecausing an interruption of connectivity and television broadcasting services in several areas of Moscow.
The repercussions of the attack were significant: it is estimated that approximately 20 terabytes of Russian data have been irretrievably lost. In addition, hackers have exfiltrated over 10 gigabytes of sensitive data from the server then making them publicly accessible online. Data which, according to the source, would also include corporate and personal information of the company’s customers.
A direct response to the December 12 hacker attack
In addition to the obvious geopolitical motivations, the attack also represents a sort of retaliation. In fact, as reported by Ansa, the hackers declared they had acted in response to the cyber attack suffered by Kyivstar on December 12thone of Ukraine’s leading telecommunications companies.
