Samsung Galaxy S24 series: launch expected on January 17, with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, improved cameras and artificial intelligence

Samsung Galaxy S24: when is the launch event?
The first question many ask concerns the launch date of Samsung’s new smartphones. In recent years, the Korean giant has increasingly brought forward the presentation times of the Galaxy S series, moving from February to January. This trend seems to be confirmed also for 2024, given that according to the most credible rumors the event Galaxy Unpacked dedicated to Samsung Galaxy S24 would be set for the day January 17th.
It would therefore be an anticipation of approximately two weeks compared to the launch of the Galaxy S23, which took place on January 29, 2023. The date of January 17th it is not yet official, but it has been reported by several reliable sources, including the portal The Elec and the leaker Ice Universe.
Samsung Galaxy S24: technical specifications
Let’s now move on to the technical specifications of the three models that will make up the Galaxy S24 series: the basic model, the Plus model and the Ultra model. As always, we expect some differences in both the dimensions and characteristics of the deviceswith the Ultra model which will be positioned as the most advanced and complete in the range.
All Samsung Galaxy S24 will have a screen with LTPO technology, which allows you to dynamically adjust the refresh rate based on the content displayed, thus optimizing energy consumption. The base model and the Plus model will have an FHD+ resolution, while the Ultra model will have one QHD resolution+. All models will support a refresh rate up to 120 Hz.
Performance
As for the processor, the Samsung Galaxy S24 should feature the new Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which promises high performance especially in gaming, with support for ray tracing. However, as usual, Samsung could opt for its proprietary processor Exynos 2400 in some markets, such as the European one. However, it would be a high-end chip, based on the 4nm production process and equipped with an integrated 5G modem.
RAM will vary da 8 a 16 GB depending on the model and variant chosen, while the internal memory will be available in sizes of 128, 256 or 512 GB. The battery will most likely be 4000 mAh for the basic model, 4500 mAh for the Plus model and 5000 mAh for the Ultra model. The latter should also have an improved cooling system, with a steam chamber larger than the previous model.
Cameras
The photographic sector will be one of the strong points of the Samsung Galaxy S24, especially for the Ultra model, which will have five rear cameras. The main sensor will be 50 megapixel with f/1.8 aperture and optical stabilization (OIS), the same that we find in the basic and Plus models. The difference lies in the telephoto lens, which in the Ultra model will be 50 megapixels with 5x optical zoom and OIS, while in the other models it will be 12 megapixels with 3x optical zoom and OIS.
The Ultra model will also have a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, a sensore TOF (Time of Flight) for depth and a Laser AF sensor for focusing. The basic and Plus models will instead only have a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. The front camera will be from 10 megapixel for the basic and Plus models and 40 megapixels for the Ultra model.
Samsung Galaxy S24: possible colors
Finally, let’s talk about the colors available for the Samsung Galaxy S24. According to the renderings released online, the base and Plus models will be available in four shades: Onyx Black (nero), Marble Grey (grigio), Cobalt Violet (viola) e Amber Yellow (giallo).
The Ultra model will instead have more exclusive colours, with the name Titanium: Titanium Black (black), Titanium Gray (grey), Titanium Violet (purple) and Titanium Yellow (yellow). The choice of the name Titanium is not random, given that the Ultra model will use titanium as the material for the frame, while the other models will use aluminium.
