After a spell in second place, Samsung returns to dominate the market smartphone sales globally, surpassing Apple e Xiaomi. Despite the contraction of the market, the Korean company is once again dominating it.
Samsung returns to first place for smartphone sales
Il Canalys quarterly reporta well-known market analysis firm, showed that the global mobile phone market has undergone a contraction of 12% compared to the same period of the previous year. This is the fifth quarter in a row that sales have declined. Despite the difficult situation, the market has stabilized and shows no signs of further deterioration.
Samsung posted monthly growth and regained the leadership with a market share of 22%. However, Samsung’s challenge is not over, because Apple follows closely with a 21% market share. Apple’s success is due to the strong demand for iPhone 14 Prowhich narrowed the gap significantly with Samsung compared to the same quarter last year.
Xiaomi took third place with 11% market share, thanks to the launch of new models at the end of the quarter. The company boasts leadership in China, its main market. However, Xiaomi has to watch its back from OPPO, which has achieved a 10% market share. OPPO has improved its presence in Asia-Pacific and China, where it challenged Xiaomi. Vivo finished the ranking in fifth place with an 8% market share.
2023 didn’t start easy for smartphone vendors. Some local macroeconomic factors have limited the investment and operational capabilities of the brands. Also, low market demand has led to a inventory reduction throughout the mobile phone supply chain. Distribution channels also have lowered inventory levels to avoid risk. Many cell phone brands have opted to keep shipments low or stable.
