Meta informed users about a possible compromise of Facebook accounts. In particular, around one million accounts may have been compromised from some third party apps, downloaded by users from the Apple Store or from Play Store. Here are the full details regarding Meta’s announcement:
Facebook confirms possible violation of user accounts
And report in Meta highlighted how they have been identified in the last year more than 400 apps able to steal the login credentials of a Facebook account from users. These applications are designed to go unnoticed by Google and Apple controls and are, therefore, available on the stores of Android smartphones and iPhones.
The apps are able to get hold of the access data of the Facebook accounts. Meta pointed out how around one million accounts may be compromised by now. The company has therefore invited users to change their account passwords, starting the procedure for resetting the access credentials that could secure the account affected by the violation.
We will see what the consequences of Meta’s announcement and the possible violation of social network accounts will be. If the numbers were to be greater than expected, in fact, the social network could initiate a mass reset of passwords or implement even more advanced security tools to protect users.
