Cleaning the house becomes easier and easier. If once upon a time you had to struggle with a broom and dustpan, or change the vacuum cleaner socket several times, today you can remove dust from floors and furniture quickly. But while testing for the review of Shark Detect Pro, we realized that the right technologies can make cleaning the house even more comfortable and easier. With intelligent suction you will vacuum every corner of your home quickly. And with auto-emptying and auto-refilling, when you’re done going through the rooms you’re really done cleaning.
The new electric vacuum cleaner with self-emptying base from Shark it is not a perfect product, not for everyone at least: the battery performance and some small details could be a problem for some. But the ease of use and the very effective suction convinced us completely: we tell you about our experience with Shark Detect Pro in this review.
Our review of Shark Detect Pro
The new SharkNinja vacuum cleaner comes in an ecological and rather large package, because it comes with a self-emptying base that requires its own space. But once we removed all the components from the package we were surprised at how small and compact the complete package was. easy to place in any corner of your home.
In the package you will find thecordless vacuum cleaner and his rechargeable lithium battery (and easy to replace), the charging base with two liter emptying systema crevice nozzle to replace the brush and a scented filter for the base.
Simple design but attentive to detail
Shark Detect Pro ha un main body white, with the joints and the shelf that contains the LED display and the two main black buttons. The battery is also black, which you can replace by pressing the dedicated button and sliding it: at the moment we don’t see spare parts on the Shark official website, but we assume that in the future they will be available for prolonged cleaning (or simply to change when the lithium battery loses its power) .
The main tube, on which you find the writing Detect Pro, and several inserts have a brass colour what we like: it gives an elegant look even to a cleaning product.
The basket that collects dirt is transparent, so you can see how it fills up – and also how quickly it empties automatically. You will almost never need to open it, given the self-emptying, but to do so just click the appropriate button and it will open like a mouth. Once opened you can see the metal pre-filter, but by clicking the other two buttons next to the pre-filter you can remove the entire body of the tray and see the fabric filterwhich you can clean or replace if necessary.
On the front side, you will find two buttons: one at the bottom for change the brush and one at the top to use the main body as aspirabriciole. On the back you will find another one that allows you to flex the vacuum cleaner handle to get under furniture with ease.
You can also connect the nozzle for 20 cm creviceswhich becomes particularly useful for the car, although you can use it to vacuum furniture and shelves.
The whole weighs less than three kilos and it’s really easy to operate. The brush is approximately 25 centimeters wide and measures less than 6 centimeters at its highest point.
A cutting-edge cleaning system
Starting to clean with Shark Detect Pro is intuitive: just click the power button at the top to hear the suction begin. The button next to it allows you to select Eco or Turbo suction, which is more powerful but also uses more battery. For this reason, with the exception of the dedicated tests during our review, we have almost always used automatic technologies that perform Shark Detect Pro so simple to use.
There are four cleaning technologies in total, although not all are equally effective. EdgeDetect detects when you are vacuuming close to a wall or piece of furniture, increasing suction on the side that hits the edge or corner. It works without any problems and seems to pick up dirt very well. To test FloorDetect we asked to be able to vacuum our parents’ house, who have different carpets (the parents accepted with enthusiasm!). Detect Pro recognizes in no time the type of floor you are passing and adjusts the power accordingly. It seemed constant and immediate.
FloorDetect it should recognize and adjust itself based on the dirt present, but it seems to us that it only works in “extreme” situations: it is activated only if you are passing the corner where pets sleep or if, like us, you do tests with coffee and sugar. Fortunately, it does an excellent job of vacuuming which makes up for the fact that this feature isn’t as precise as the others.
In the end, LightDetect adjust the LEDs on the brush to let you clean more precisely. A useful function, but less futuristic than the name suggests. We appreciate that it only turns on the LEDs on one side when you clean a corner and find it intuitive to use. But we would have preferred lower lights to better illuminate the dirt, while instead they are located high up on the brush.
Shark Detect Pro review: excellent suction
Cutting-edge technologies make it easier to adjust suction while cleaning. But the real reason why Shark Detect Pro impressed us is its performance. We easily vacuumed both floors and carpets in a single pass, with excellent results in corners and more complex areas. Even the vacuuming of animal hair and hair should not createand no problem. If you then activate the turbo, you can capture practically any debris: it is really strong.
Also very convenient is the fact that hair, even long, do not get caught in the brush: above you will find an image of the situation after cleaning a bathroom after drying and combing hair. Inside the brush you will find small plastic teeth which apparently do an excellent job – and save you from having to do it. However, we would have preferred it to be easier to remove the central roller. But it seems to us that we will have to do this a few times.
Very easy to empty and maintain
Once cleaning is finished, you will have captured all the dirt in the transparent cylinder with double filter. He has a system Anti-Allergen Complete Seal which according to Shark captures 99.9% of dust and allergens. We have never had any problems while using it and it seems really well made.
Once cleaning is finished, with a single gesture you can attach it to the self-draining base and forget about it. But the first times we were a little enchanted to see the self-emptying at work, we must admit.
As soon as you hang the broom, it will not only start charging the battery, but you will feel a strong suction that will instantly remove dirt, which tends to accumulate on the metal filter. The operation continues for a few seconds, but there was no amount of dirt that it didn’t suck up in an instant.
Clean the tank
The dirt thus accumulates a 2 liter tank, which depending on how much dirt you vacuum up you won’t have to change for 30-45 days according to Shark’s calculations (we did it after two weeks of use and it wasn’t even half full). On the tank you can put a perfume seal (you can adjust the amount of perfume emitted) which ensures that a good smell remains. It works great: in the corner of the laundry room where we placed it there is a slight fresh smell. Which is not annoying (clothes freshly washed in the washing machine, for example, cover it) but is enough to cover any bad smells.
Emptying the tank is easy: it can be lifted with one hand and you can open the bottom with two fingers. Cleaning the inside may require a moment of patience, but much less than usual: this is a technology we will struggle to do without.
Cleaning the filter under the tank and that of the broom are no more complicated than those for any other electric vacuum cleaner we have used: in total, a clear advantage for convenience.
Battery life is not excellent
Good thick-wire vacuum cleaners, to ensure suction and lightness, must compromise on autonomy. And it’s also the worst flaw of Shark Detect Pro, although in the future we think that the possibility of changing the batteries on the go could solve this (but even then, it would be an additional cost).
Battery life can reach 40-45 minutes in Eco mode, while in Turbo mode you can hardly reach a quarter of an hour. But we think it is more convenient to use it in automatic mode (after all, it is called Detect Pro for a reason) and in this case making estimates is more difficult. We used it for about half an hour on average, which is enough for our daily cleaning. But those with larger homes may need more time.
The good thing is the great suction and the smart functions they make cleaning quicker: we noticed an improvement in the average times as we went through the various rooms of the house. For us it is enough, which makes us appreciate the many other qualities more. Also because it automatically recharges every time we place it on the base. But autonomy is an important feature: if these times are not enough for you, you must consider other solutions (perhaps a corded vacuum cleaner).
