After dominating the world of music streaming and becoming a point of reference for podcasts, Spotify is now targeting the audiobook market.
The Swedish giant has officially launched the new feature that allows you to listen to a vast catalog of audiobooks, with up to 15 hours of free listening per month. The functionality is currently only available in UK and Australiabut it should arrive in the United States later this year and in Europe soon after.
How do audiobooks work on Spotify?
The 15 hours a month, available only to those with an active Premium subscription plan, can be extended by paying a supplement. Likewise it is possible to purchase the audiobooks outright.
The service offers a large number of titles, thanks also to some recent agreements with publishing giants such as Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Hachette e Simon & Schuster. Spotify’s statements are also resounding, which, on the occasion of the launch of the feature, claimed to be “the largest subscription audiobook streaming platform currently on the market”.
At the moment it is not clear when the new feature will arrive in Italy. As far as we know, the audiobooks, which launched yesterday in the UK and Australia, will arrive in the US by Christmas. It is likely that it will be possible to listen to them in Europe as early as the first months of 2024.
